Bob stopped in to refill the feeder pail. He forgot to smoke the bees and got stung numerous times in the thumb and hand. After a bee stings, it will die - the sacrifice they make to protect the hive. Bob Sitko said to leave them alone for a while then check in a few days for new eggs. If present the queen is OK.
